چکیده
We evaluated the in vitro antifungal activity of diphenyl diselenide and ebselen against echinocandin-susceptible and -resistant strains of Candida parapsilosis using the broth microdilution method. Diphenyl diselenide (MIC range =1-8 µg/mL) and ebselen (MIC range =0.25-4 µg/mL) showed in vitro activity against echinocandin-susceptible isolates. However, ebselen also showed the highest antifungal activity against echinocandin-resistant strains (MIC range =0.06-4 µg/mL). This study demonstrated that the antifungal potential of diphenyl diselenide and ebselen deserves further investigation using in vivo experimental protocols.

In vitro susceptibilities of Candida dubliniensis isolates tested against the new triazole and echinocandin antifungal agents.
Candida dubliniensis is a newly recognized fungal pathogen causing mucosal disease in AIDS patients. Although preliminary studies indicate that most strains of C. dubliniensis are susceptible to established antifungal agents, fluconazole-resistant strains have been detected. Furthermore, fluconazole-resistant strains are easily derived in vitro, and these strains exhibit increased expression of...
متن کاملIn vitro activities of voriconazole as a triazole derivative and caspofungin as an echinocandin were compared with those of some antifungal agents against Candida species isolated from clinical specimens.
We evaluated the in vitro activity of ketoconazole (KET), fluconazole (FLU), amphotericin B (AmpB), and flucytosine (FCU) in comparison to voriconazole (VOR) as a triazole derivative and caspofungin (CAS) as an echinocandin against 114 Candida spp. isolated from different cultures (blood, urine, sputum). The most common species of identified Candida were C. albicans (88), followed by C. parapsi...
متن کاملIn vitro activity of the novel echinocandin CD101 at pH 7 and 4 against Candida spp. isolates from patients with vulvovaginal candidiasis
Background The novel echinocandin CD101 has stability properties amenable to topical formulation for use in the treatment of acute vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) and recurrent VVC (RVVC). CD101 has demonstrated potent antifungal activity at pH 7, but assessment of its activity at the physiological pH of the vaginal environment is needed. Objectives To evaluate the antifungal activity of CD101...
متن کاملInvestigation of the Antifungal Effect of Rosa Damascena Essential Oil and Mixed Mouthwash (Grape Vinegar and Rosa Damascena essential oil) Against Candida albicans, Candida dubliniensis, Candida parapsilosis and Candida glabrata
Background and Objective: Oral candidiasis is often caused by Candida albicans, followed by C. dubliniensis, C. parapsilosis, and C. glabrata. The present study aimed to investigate the antifungal effects of Rosa damascena (R. damascena) essential oil, mixed mouthwash of R. damascena essential oil and grape vinegar, as well as nystatin against various standard Candida species. Materials and Me...
متن کاملIn vitro Antifungal Effect of Aqueous Garlic (Allium Sativum) Extract and its Combination with Fluconazole Against Five Common Clinical Candida Isolated from Candidiasis Lesions
Introduction: Increasing rate of candidiasis prevalence and consequently use of antifungal drugs as prophylactic and curative agents has led to the widespread emergence of resistant strains. Therefore this study was designed to evaluate the in vitro antifungal activity of an aqueous extract of garlic and the synergic effect of garlic extract with fluconazole against common clinical isolates of ...
